Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is now urging the federal government to “send the funds” to aid the American Southeast’s recovery after Hurricane Helene, despite having recently opposed emergency relief funds.

“The storm was expected to hit my district directly, but it shifted east when it passed through Georgia, leaving us with mostly rain,” Greene explained to Terrance Bates of Real America’s Voice. “When we return to Washington, we will work diligently to ensure states like Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and North Carolina receive the necessary funding.”

Greene was among 82 Republicans who voted against a continuing resolution to keep the government funded last week. Had she succeeded, a government shutdown would have started on Tuesday, blocking critical assistance to affected regions.

“We’ve already signed a letter,” Greene told Bates. “We sent it to Joe Biden, requesting relief that our governor, Brian Kemp, has already asked for. Our entire Georgia delegation has signed the letter.”

“We need them to step in and provide the funds and relief these people deserve,” she added.

However, Greene’s public appeals seem somewhat insincere. During the storm, she was seen attending a football game with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, while Kemp disclosed that President Joe Biden had contacted him over the weekend to evaluate the state’s needs.

Greene also criticized the Biden administration while seeking federal aid from it.

“President Trump is a man of action,” she told the right-wing network. “We don’t need a sleepy Joe in the White House or Kamala Harris being propped up.”
