Trump’s Hated ‘TACO’ Nickname Is Catching On: CNN Data Guru

The president is reportedly displeased with a new nickname that has emerged from Wall Street circles.

A data analyst at CNN indicates that President Donald Trump’s unwelcome “TACO” moniker is becoming more widespread.

“TACO,” an acronym for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” has been increasingly used in financial circles to characterize President Donald Trump’s repeated reversals on tariffs and other key policies.

“This term is actually permeating mainstream culture, and Google search data illustrates this,” stated CNN data specialist Harry Enten. He presented a chart indicating a “9,900 percent surge in searches for the term on Thursday compared to Tuesday.”

As an example, after President Trump levied a 145 percent tariff on Chinese products on “Liberation Day,” April 2, leading to China’s counter-tariffs of 125 percent, he subsequently reduced the U.S. tariffs to 30 percent. Similar reductions in tariffs have been applied to Canada, Mexico, and the European Union.

Furthermore, the acronym has recently been adopted by Trump’s critics. Prominent Democratic figures, such as California Governor Gavin Newsom and Jon Cooper, who previously chaired a campaign for former President Barack Obama, have been using the term this week.

Trump himself is evidently bothered by the nickname.

“That’s an offensive question,” he responded to a journalist at a White House press conference on Wednesday when asked about the term. “Never repeat what you just said. That’s an offensive question. To me, that’s the most offensive question.”

Nonetheless, if the recent figures from CNN are an accurate indicator, the nickname may endure.

“This, in my view, is quite concerning for Donald Trump because his brand is obviously built on his name,” Enten remarked on Friday.

“His image is based on the perception that he follows through on his promises,” Enten elaborated. “If Donald Trump suddenly becomes associated with ‘Trump Always Chickens Out,’ well, that is not favorable.”
