The killing of a demonstrator by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis has officially been classified as a homicide.

On Monday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office published its autopsy results regarding the Jan. 24 death of Alex Pretti.
The findings stated that the 37-year-old nurse died from several gunshot wounds and explicitly noted that the shots were fired by law enforcement.
Under medical examiner protocols, a homicide ruling signifies that a person’s death was caused by another individual, though it does not conclude whether a crime took place.
A federal civil rights investigation into the fatal encounter has been opened by the Justice Department.
The Trump administration further announced Monday that body cameras will be required for every Homeland Security agent in Minneapolis, covering both Border Patrol and ICE personnel.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed the new body camera mandate in a social media post on Monday.
